In the early 1920's, the Balboa Penninsula was witness and home to a growing trend in the world of dancing. Unnamed at its birth, the dance came into its own during the early 1930's and became known as The Balboa. The Balboa became extremely popular, making its way up the coast to Los Angeles. Here you could find it being danced throughout the swing era at many of the famous ballrooms such as the Paladium, Casino Gardens, and the Trianon Ballrooms.

Today, "The Balboa" is being done all over the world in countries such as Russia, France, Sweden, and even Australia . Although the dance has taken various shapes since it was first seen at Newport's Rendenzvous, the concept remains the same as a closed position dance based on an inward expression of intimate rhythm changes.

For the first time in history, we have both Dwight Lapardis and Peter Loggins, who are the formost experts on the Balboa. They will be discussing in detail not only its origins and history, but also its influences throughout history leading up until today.

Along with them, the legendary Balboa dancer Dean Raftery will be teaching with Mia Goldsmith, who is one of the leading Balboa dancers of todays generation. Aside from teaching, Dean will be discussing the forgotten culture that surrounds this dance form and the meanings behind the terms.
